Possibly the nearest and most easy to reach location for a night out from Guwahati city. Hardly an hour from the city, Pobitora offers a welcome break from the city traffic and pollution. Its flat landscape offers almost a guarantee to spot the Indian One Horned Rhinoceros in its wild habitat. And due to its large wetlands, Pobitora is also a paradise for the Migratory Birds.

2. Chonoka

If you want to be completely cut of from outside interference for a night or two, pack your bags , take your family and friends and go to Chonoka. About an hour and half drive from the city will get you to this picturesque location on the edge of the city. With almost no interference accept the hospitality staff, it is a great place to spend some quality time. With the majestic Brahmaputra on the doorstep, it is one of the best places for fishing!!

A crater lake formed by a great earthquake seems cool enough to grab the attention of travel enthusiasts. The lake is surrounded by hills with thick forests on almost all sides. A small village of the Rabha Tribe of Assam is located by the lake. So expect a lot of traditional cuisines and beverages to try out. Also beautiful waterfalls and screne boat rides are part of the deal.

If you want to experience the true wilderness of the state of Assam, Manas is the place to be. Thick evergreen forests hide a lot of surprises. Located near heritage town of Tezpur, the Nameri Wildlife Sanctuary is another getaway in the midst of nature. Beautiful tented (both budget and economy) with campfires at night is what makes this place so happening.

Apart from the stay itself, angling for the Golden Mahseer in the Jia Bhorali River is allowed here. Rafting and trekking under the guidance of trained people is also allowed here.

6. Kaziranga National Park

Known as the home of the One Horned Rhino, the Kaziranga National Park receives the highest number of both foreign and domestic tourists in the state. Easy accessibility and variety of wildlife are the main attractions of Kaziranga. Also a view of the beautiful tea gardens of Assam, the option to try different traditional cuisines and a range of accommodations to chose from makes it one of the most popular getaways.
